Could interval training help stroke recovery?

The University of Cincinnati recently launched a new study that could significantly impact how physical therapy approaches the treatment of stroke patients. Kari Dunning, PhD, and Brett Kissela, MD, are leading the new research that is aimed at discovering a correlation between high intensity interval training with improved fitness and motor functioning in chronic stroke patients. The researchers hypothesize that adding 20-25 minutes of high intensity cardiovascular interval training to a stroke patient’s physical therapy regimen will lead to a significant increase in motor function in stroke patients.
