Improving Memory
Many research studies have investigated memory and how to improve and maintain it over the lifespan, and many more are sure to come. However, a recent study published in Psychological Science has indicated that when it comes to working out your brain, puzzles may not be the way to go.
In a study looking at over 221 people, researchers asked three groups to do different tasks and then assessed their memory skills for signs of improvement. The first group was asked to do mentally stimulating activities, such as crossword puzzles. The second group was asked to socialize with others through entertainment and social field trips. And the third group was asked to learn new skills such as quilting.
Results indicated that out of all three groups, learning a new skill brought about the most improvement in memory skills. Looking to improve memory skills in your patients? Read more of this article at CBSnews.com and see if this is something you can incorporate in your therapy sessions!
